The Calvert County Health Department has updated their Covid booster eligibility requirements. (These differ from the CDC recommendations in that Calvert's requirements make boosters eligible to more people.)

    Per their web site:

"In order to receive a Covid booster through the Calvert Health Department, individuals shall meet the following criteria:

    1) The initial vaccinations received were either Pfizer or Moderna.

*For those who received Johnson & Johnson (J&J), please see below.

    2) At least 4 months have passed since receiving your second vaccine dose

    3) All members of the general public age 16 or older are eligible for booster doses

The Calvert Health Department strongly recommends that anyone 50 or older with underlying health conditions should get a booster dose to reduce your risk of serious complications of Covid.

We also strongly recommend that anyone who works in a prioritized job classification should take advantage of the increased protection of a booster dose."

Please see the Calvert County Health Department Coronavirus page for more information on Covid boosters, including Q & A. The most recent information is at the top of the page.

Many thanks to the Calvert County Health Department workers who are doing their best to keep us all safe and healthy.

    Your opinion matters!

This is your chance to weigh in on bringing diversity and balance to law enforcement and criminal justice in Calvert County.

Calvert County is required by Maryland law to establish a Police Accountability Board (PAB) and an Administrative Charging Committee (ACC). Here's what you need to know about what those things are, why this is happening, and how it will happen:

The following is shared from an email from Steny Hoyer's campaign, Hoyer for Congress. It is shared for your information. Please let all interested college students know of this opportunity.

    ================================================

    Dear friend,

I am proud to announce that my campaign will be participating as a partner in the 2021 National Democracy Summer School! Developed by fellow Marylander and Congressman Jamie Raskin, this program is dedicated to training the next generation of political activists, organizers, and leaders. In 2021, for the first time ever, Democracy Summer is expanding nationally in partnership with the DCCC and campaigns like ours.

As a part of this initiative, I am offering dedicated college students the opportunity to join my campaign as Hoyer For Congress Fellows. Those interested can apply HERE. Selected Fellows will participate in an exciting online seminar designed by Rep. Raskin focused on the history of social and political change in America and the progress of political democracy, while simultaneously training as organizers and volunteer activists with my reelection campaign here in Maryland’s Fifth District. Hoyer For Congress will pay Fellows a $1000 stipend.

The theme of this year's academic seminar is “The Fight to Vote: Nonviolent Movements, Violent Reactions and the Continuing Struggle for Strong Democracy in America.”

Through the academic program, Fellows will learn from great activist heroes, both young and veteran political leaders, Democratic policy experts and top political and community organizers across the country. Past Democracy Summer speakers have included House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Civil Rights leaders Bob Moses and Rev. William J. Barber II, Prof. Laurence Tribe, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Rep. John Lewis, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and dozens of other luminaries of change and progress.

When working with my campaign, Fellows will participate in key organizing events and learn to phone-bank, text-bank, use social media to organize and educate, canvass, door-knock (when approved by public health authorities), sign-wave, register voters, run effective field programs, and build change in our country!

Additional information and the application for the Fellowship can be found HERE. The deadline to apply is May 28th. If you know a student who may be interested in this program, please forward them this email-- this is an opportunity they won’t want to miss!

We are in the struggle of our political lives to defend democracy and voting rights. Join us!

    Thank you for your support!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call my campaign office at (301) 464-5710. I also encourage you to connect with me on Twitter by following @StenyHoyer and on Facebook by liking my Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/hoyerforcongress.

At our April 2021 meeting, we voted to have the CCDWC added to a list of supporters of the Harriet Elizabeth Brown Community Center and Park. This facility will bring needed recreational resources to our county and Prince Frederick in particular.

Now the HEB Task Force really needs your help--and all you need to do is send a few emails.

The following is excerpted from an email from from Margaret Dunkle, head of the task force:

Thank you for your continuing support of the HEB CC&P.  Prince Frederick desperately needs this new resource – and we can all be proud to honor our own Calvert County hero.

We need your help to keep things on track.  The Board of County Commissioners is considering an approach that would ensure the HEB CC&P moves ahead now.  Yesterday, at a Public Hearing, staff presented a “Budget Adjustment” to set aside $6 million already on hand to support planning and construction for the Harriet Elizabeth Brown Community Center & Park.*

The Hearing record is open for public comment (that's you!) until next Friday, May 14.

Please take a minute to email our County Commissioners and responsible staff:  commiss@calvertcountymd.gov,  John.Norris@calvertcountymd.gov, Timothy.Hayden@calvertcountymd.gov

    Say something like:

I strongly support the Department of Finance & Budget’s staff recommendation to allocate $6 million for the Harriet Elizabeth Brown Community Center & Park.  I urge the County Commissioners to vote “yes” to approve Budget Adjustment #BA076CIP.

Your voice will make a difference for Calvert citizens, kids and families – and lock in funding for the Harriet Elizabeth Brown Community Center & Park!

CCDWC members and friends, let's do what we can to help move this project forward. It's not a big ask!

Jeanette Flaim, Chair of the Calvert County Democratic Central Committee (CCDCC), spoke out about the vile message on the latest "Calvert Deplorables" billboard on Route 4 at Bowie Shop Road in Huntingtown.

Read the article from The Southern Maryland Chronicle.

See the story on Fox 5 DC News

Calvert County has so many nice attributes and caring people; it's a shame this nasty billboard is what our county is known for.

Please call Governor Hogan and encourage him to speak out against this billboard. His number is 410-985-3901. It would be interesting to find out where he stands on this damaging rhetoric.

From Beverly Allyn Izzi, Youth Coordinator at Calvert Library:

The Bookmobile is coming this summer!

We all know that transportation is one of the biggest hurdles in Calvert County. Calvert Library will be getting a Bookmobile to help bring the library to those that are not able to come to one of our locations. As we are building our schedule, we want to ensure that we are reaching those communities that need us the most, please take a few minutes to fill out the following survey:

    bit.ly/CLMSstopsurvey

Feel free to forward to those that can help who are not on our Interagency list.

    Shared from Margaret Dunkle:

Thank you for being a Supporter of the Harriet Elizabeth Brown Community Center & Park.  You’re in great company:  more than 25 organizations and 100 individuals are now Supporters!  Your voice is important and we are on track to make this marvelous new facility a reality.

You can help by doing two things:

First, complete the HEB CC&P Survey if you have not already done so – and encourage others to do the same.  The Survey deadline has been extended to June 30.  And a new QR Code makes responding to the Survey even easier.

Second, ask your friends and family to become HEB CC&P Supporters by emailing HEBTaskForce@aol.com saying “Please add ___________ as a HEB CC&P Supporter!”

Also, if you are speaking with any of our County Commissioners or Parks and Recreation staff, please thank them for their efforts on behalf of the HEB CC&P.

Attached are three items:  an updated description of the HEB CC&P with the latest list of Supporters and two flyers to encourage people to make their voices heard – all with the new QR Code.  Please feel free to share these materials widely.
