CCPS Values Your Insights! We greatly appreciate your attention to this message.

Just recently, CCPS reached out with an email, expressing their search for dedicated individuals to join the school system's Family Life and Library Reconsideration Committees.

Furthermore, the Calvert County School Board is actively welcoming applicants to participate in the Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. Your involvement matters!

Text from CCPS's most recent email:

    Family Life Committee

CCPS is establishing a joint Family Life Committee of educators who work in CCPS and community representatives who reside in Calvert County for the purpose of reviewing and commenting on, and where appropriate, recommending instructional materials. Members will serve a one-year term.

The Family Life Committee will meet the second Monday of each month, January through May at 6:00 p.m. At the initial meeting, the purpose, expectations, and full health curriculum will be reviewed. Following full group sessions, the committee will divide into an elementary and a secondary committee where specific family life curricula will be reviewed and discussed.

CCPS is asking for any community member or parent residing in Calvert County to consider serving on this committee. Eight community members and parents representing elementary and secondary schools will be randomly selected. An official notification will be sent to those who are selected by September 15, 2023.

Don't forget, the January 6 Congressional Committee is back with another hearing to inform the public about what happened. Inquiring minds want to know! Here are a couple of useful links.

From Amber Phillips at The Washington Post:

How to watch the next Jan. 6 Committee hearing and what to look for

"The next hearing will be Thursday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m. Eastern.

The committee plans to show video footage and Secret Service emails that demonstrate how President Donald Trump egged on the unrest that day, even though he was warned there might be violence, report The Post’s Carol D. Leonnig and Jacqueline Alemany.

The committee live-streams its hearings, and most major TV news stations have been airing all of the hearings in full, except for Fox News. (“In the past, Fox News does play our hearings if the hearing is in the daytime,” Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) told CNN on Sunday.)

The Washington Post will have anchored coverage and analysis before the hearings on YouTube and washingtonpost.com. C-SPAN will air the hearing in full."

    From News4:

"The men vying to become Maryland's next governor will face off tonight in their first and only debate. Republican Dan Cox and Democrat Wes Moore will debate at 7:00pm Wednesday, October 12.

The hourlong debate will air on News4, which teamed up with Baltimore's WBAL-TV and Maryland Public Television."

Please tell your family and friends. Informed voters will want to watch this debate.

In case you missed it, you can watch the 10/6 League of Women Voters Candidate Forum here:

    https://youtu.be/kuiTd2pFNYs

This forum included candidates for Delegate District 29C, State's Attorney, and School Board.

There was also a nonpartisan explanation of the five questions (referenda) on this year's ballot by Ralph Watkins of the Maryland League of Women Voters. If you find ballot questions confusing (as I do), this video is very helpful! That portion starts around 1:46:00.

In case you missed it: here is the video for the 9/29 candidates' forum held by the Calvert County Chamber of Commerce. This event featured candidates for Sheriff and the Board of County Commissioners.

    The event was live streamed.
